Firefighter Training

Firefighter training has to balance proven techniques with innovated ideas. As the fire service progresses so should your training. At Fire Attack Training we offer the following firefighter training program venues:

Classroom Presentation

These are high quality lectures presented in a classroom setting using the latest information in the fire service.

Hands-on Training

These classes start with a very short lecture and spend the majority of the time on the drill field. Firefighters will use basic firefighting equipment and focus on firefighter skills and safety.

Vent-Enter-Search also referred to, as V.E.S. is an advanced search technique that yields great results. With V.E.S. firefighters gain access into the structure and perform a search in an area that has a high probability of trapped victims. This is performed without the protection of a hose line and usually away from the area of fire attack. Is it hazardous? Yes, but done correctly it may save lives. The tactic of V.E.S. has been in use for years and is now becoming normal operations for many departments.

During this course we will discuss the tactic of V.E.S. and its safe operation. Firefighters will then practice these new skills on the drill ground.

Vent Enter Search

Time required for the course: 4 hours

Fire Equipment Needs: Drill tower with window access at the first and second floor. Two sets of “Irons”, two six foot pike poles and two 24’ extension ladders. Smoke machine optional.

Student Equipment Needs: Full structural firefighting PPE; coat, pants, boots, gloves and helmet – SCBA is required.

Most of our residential fires are fought with the 1 ¾” pre-connected attack lines. These hose lines are lightweight and easy to maneuver. This makes them ideal to deploy at most residential occupancies. Unfortunately, some buildings in our response area are out of reach for these pre-connected 1 ¾” hose lines. The building may have limited access or obstacles that impede the hose stretch. For these types of fires firefighters should deploy a progressive hose lay using larger hose to reach the building and smaller attack lines to fight the fire.

During this course we will discuss how to preplan for these types of buildings and review the concepts for properly positioning the first attack line. Students we be shown how to build and deploy a pre-built hose pack for fires that are beyond the 1 ¾” pre-connected attack line.

The Garden Lay
