Home Fire Safety Survey

Survey

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) states “an effective home survey program is a primary method of fire prevention, with proven success in reducing loss of life, injury, and property damage from a fire”. Through our proactive approach to fire safety we can help you prevent a fire in your home by identifying fire hazards before a fire. Our goal is to educate you on fire safety, not simply to point out fire hazards.

Our employees are full-time firefighters who understand the importance of fire safety. We will complete a thorough fire safety survey of your home using the latest information recommended by the NFPA. During this detailed survey, we will test and change the batteries of each smoke alarm & carbon monoxide alarm in the home.  We recommend that each smoke alarm be replaced every 8-10 years (depending on condition of the alarm) and carbon monoxide alarms be replaced after 7 years of use. Our employees will replace and instal new alarms as needed. Studies have shown that the presence of working smoke alarms on each level of the house reduces the risk of death from fire by 50%.

During the survey we will educate you on how to perform a monthly inspection of your own fire extinguisher so that you can be sure it is operational. If you do not have one, we can provide and instal the correct size fire extinguisher for your home. Fire Attack Training also provides fire extinguisher training and recommends that each adult be trained to properly operate a fire extinguisher.

We will also complete a fire escape drill for you and your family so that everyone will know how how to escape a fire. Both primary and secondary escape routes will be identified from each bedroom in the home. Fire Attack Training can also provide you with a custom Emergency Escape Map that includes the following:

  1. -A detailed floor plan of your home to identify the primary and secondary escape routes

  2. -The location of fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms and the assembly point outside the home

Upon completion of the survey, we will carefully review the findings and describe the steps that need to be taken to eliminate any identified hazards. Again, our goal is to educate you on fire safety, not simply to point out fire hazards.

Are you prepared?

Did you know...

  1. A residential structure fire occurs every 79 seconds.

  2. More than 3,000 people die in home fires each year in the U.S. Most of these fires occurred in homes without a working smoke alarm.

  3. From 2003 to 2006, almost two-thirds of home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.

Why should I have a smoke alarm?

  1. A properly maintained smoke alarm is the only thing in your home that can alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  2. Whether you’re awake or asleep, a working smoke alarm is on alert, constantly scanning the air.

  3. A smoke alarm that isn’t working because of age or because it has batteries that are dead or missing is just like not having a smoke alarm at all.
